A new category. From zero.
Navigating the messy middle of launching smartphones in a marketplace built for discovery.
Conceptual illustration, not a product screenshot or internal company interface.
Context
At Meesho, I worked across business, category growth, and zero-to-one initiatives. One of those initiatives was helping launch the Smartphones category.
Problem
A category launch connects several problems at once: sourcing supply, enabling distribution, coordinating fulfillment, and understanding marketplace economics.
Constraints
Distribution and fulfillment introduced operational challenges. Commercial details, internal dashboards, and supplier information are intentionally omitted.
My role
I helped launch the category, working across supply sourcing, distribution, fulfillment operations, and business execution. This was a cross-functional contribution, not a claim of sole ownership.
Approach
An explanatory framing of the problem, rather than a verbatim internal playbook.
- 01
Map the dependencies between supply, distribution, and fulfillment.
- 02
Understand operational friction before pushing for scale.
- 03
Connect merchandising decisions with supply readiness.
- 04
Use experimentation and feedback to refine execution.
Execution
The work connected commercial decisions with operational follow-through: understanding supply, navigating distribution, and working through fulfillment challenges as the category took shape.
Conceptual execution loop. No internal process or performance data shown.
Outcome
Contributed to the launch of the Smartphones category. No category-level revenue, launch dates, or conversion metrics are shared here.
What I learned
A zero-to-one launch is a system of dependencies. A strong proposition only becomes useful when the operational details work together.
